Artist Statement
"The unknown inspires me. It can create fear or excitement. There is beauty in the fact that the unknown is always around us. It’s what we choose to do with it that makes the difference. When you are growing up and you know you are gay, the world has a lot of unknowns. H.P. Lovecraft has a history of being against minorities and the like. He was famously quoted as saying "The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown." I think these Lovecraftian creatures embody all the different fears that LGBTQ+ have."
